I saw Robert Downey Jr. in a burnt orange gown,
Dancing in a doorway near a mountain town.

He said my name is Robert One Four Oh.
I knew not what to say except, Hello.

He invited me to join him and I readily complied;
We danced, he kissed my hand, and then we went inside
A strange and lovely dwelling high and wide,
Walls of frost and rain and mist of ice and snow,
Shards of sun and rays of shadow,
An undulating sea below.

He said I've been quite free of vice for many years now.
Perhaps I raised a brow for he rephrased with courtly bow,
That is, free from callous public view of private choice if you'll allow.
I said Yes Robespierre in a whispery voice.

He said Why call me such in this windsong way?
I said It came to mind that's all and he said Okay,
For you and them I'll be him, call me Robert though.
Yes I said for this is your play.
He smiled, Oh yes it's my show.

We watched the glistening fire and frost tableau
Spoke of tidal waves, Van Gogh, rhetorical device;
He made us lemon drinks with icicle ice
We sipped melting flames and floated, it was so nice.

This is why people fall in love with him, I realize.
The icicle lemonade.
Not the kiss nor the genius nor his eyes.

He asked Are you afraid?
No I said, are you?
Only at the fade, he said,
When the masquerade is through.

I put my arms around him, whispering in his ear,
That will never happen here.
He looked deep into my eyes and said You dear old dear,
You know this is forever, the same as never?
Whatever is the gear of the hour's imagineer.

That might make sense to you, I said, but not to me.
He loudly trilled Heigh-ho! alas! and lack-a-dee!
Am I the moth or flame, is this true or game
I'm all at sea!

I looked at him askance.
He sang Let's laugh and dance!
Life's a random chance and I am free
Not to take it seriously!
I cried out I agree! and let loose with a wild tricotee
Then he showed off his fandango tango boogie.

Dreams disappear in day, yet stay in mind's parade,
A thought or smile away from fireglow, light and shade
In the mountain snow chateau
Of Robert One Four Oh.
